Two ladies behind the counter in pink and lots of bakes

Your guide to holding a wear it pink bake sale

You don’t have to be a whiz in the kitchen to hold a successful bake sale. It’s a fantastic way to get everyone involved, either by baking, eating or both! Follow our top tips and soon you’ll be on your way to satisfying hungry event attendees and raising life-changing cash.

1. Choose a venue

Whether you’re holding your bake sale at home, work, school or out in your community, make sure you get the correct permissions in advance.

2. Set the date and time

It could be wear it pink day or a day in October when best suits you! Try and have your bake sale at a busy time where you’ll catch more hungry people.

3. Ask your friends, family or colleagues to get baking

Lots of people love to bake, especially for a great cause. You could even have a competition for most creative bake, pinkest bake or showstopper. That’s what we do in the Breast Cancer Now offices!

Or if they can’t bake, ask if they could contribute a shop-bought item (we won’t tell if you don’t!)

4. Shout about your event

Let everyone know you’ll be holding a bake sale for wear it pink by sending out invitations and posting it on your social media. Put up posters in the venue ahead of time with the date and share the details with your friends and colleagues.

5. Decorate your space

Drape the bunting, blow up your balloons and put up those posters. Simply register for wear it pink and we’ll send you out a fundraising kit with everything you need.

6. Label your bakes

Be conscious of allergies and dietary requirements. Make sure you have tasty food for all diets, such as dairy and gluten free, and pop the allergens on a label.

Download our cake labels and toppers.

7. Set up a JustGiving page

The easiest way to collect cashless donations is through a JustGiving page. Have a look at our handy guide to setting up your own.

You can even print a QR code for your JustGiving page for quick and easy donations. Learn more about QR codes.

8. Ask for donations

If you ask for a suggested donation instead of charging a set price, we’re able to claim Gift Aid on the voluntary donation. Just make sure there is no minimum to donate in exchange for a bake and guests can have one without donating. Pop a Gift Aid form next to your collection box so guests can fill in their details, allowing us to claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated by an eligible donor. Find out more about Gift Aid.
