Why's it so important to raise money?

By taking part in wear it pink, you can make a big difference to everyone affected by breast cancer. Find out about Breast Cancer Now’s research and support services, and what your fundraising can help fund.

The short answer

We ask people to raise money to help fund life-saving breast cancer research and life-changing support. Every year we ask you, and thousands of others, to wear it pink in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s an excellent way to have a fabulous time while raising awareness about this terrible disease, but it’s also a lot more than that.

The Longer Answer

Research

At Breast Cancer Now, we’re steered by our world-class research. By funding over 340 of the brightest minds in breast cancer research across the UK and Ireland, we’re discovering how we can prevent breast cancer, save lives and live well with the disease. This gives us the power to drive forward progress on a global stage.

To date, we’ve already invested over £268 million in breast cancer research. And we’re not about to stop. Right now, we’re funding over 70 cutting-edge projects to discover how we can change the future of breast cancer.

Support

We want to be there for everyone affected by breast cancer, every step of the way. Through our helpline, we provide tailored information and specialist support to anyone affected by breast cancer or with queries about breast health. Callers include people who want to know more about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, people who’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer, their families and friends, and healthcare professionals.

Our support groups offer much-needed peer support. Our Someone Like Me service can put you in touch with one of our volunteers who can support you by telephone. You’ll speak to someone who’s finished their treatment and has been trained to help.

Campaigning

Thanks to our amazing supporters, our campaigns are making things better for people living with or affected by breast cancer. Some of our recent campaigns have highlighted issues affecting people diagnosed with breast cancer, they have fought for drugs such as Kadycla to be made available in the UK and they have ensured the voices of those affected by breast cancer are being heard.

Thank you

Our goal at Breast Cancer Now is that by 2050, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live, and receive the support that they need to live well. By holding a wear it pink event and raising money, you’re helping us make that goal a reality. We are so grateful.
