How to Wear It Pink at work
Our step-by-step guide is here to help you organise your very own Wear It Pink event at work. First-time fundraiser? Need some fresh inspiration? We’ve got you covered.
Breast Cancer Now’s Wear It Pink day is one of the biggest fundraising events in the UK. You and your colleagues can help us reach our vision. That by 2050, everyone with breast cancer will live and live well.
Step 1: Register
First things first, you need to register for Wear It Pink. It’s super quick to do and we’ll send you our fabulous fundraising pack jam-packed with games, decorations and lots more.
Only 1 person at your work needs to register. If you need extra materials, we can send some. Our Wear It Pink team will be on hand to help with ideas, fundraising advice and any questions.
Step 2: Set the date
Most people will host their event in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. But don’t worry if October isn’t a good time for you – just let us know what date works for everyone so we can support you in the best way possible.
You could choose an office day when most staff are in, or a day you know customers will be keen to get involved.
Step 3: Let people know what you’re doing
The first person to tell is your boss or manager to make sure they’re happy for you to organise a Wear It Pink event. Then make sure to let your colleagues and customers know. Put up posters. Send emails. Put it in your company intranet. Use this invite to share your JustGiving page and start fundraising straight away.
Tell everyone why you’ll be wearing pink and why they should get involved or donate. This way, people can support you and help you make it an incredible day.
Step 4: Choose your games and activities
Decide what exciting fundraising activities you want to do at your event. You can download materials (and order extra if you run out) to help make your event as successful as it can be. We’ve put some ideas together to get you started, but you can get creative and make the event your own:
- Bake sales (big money makers!)
- Quizzes (use our Big Pink Quiz to challenge your colleagues)
- Sweepstakes
- Bingo
- Raffles
- Tombola
- Best outfit competition
If you’re holding a raffle, it’s always worth asking local shops and businesses if they can donate a prize. Tell them that you’ll be taking part in Breast Cancer Now’s Wear It Pink day. Don’t be disheartened if they say no, sometimes it’s not in their control and there’s no harm in trying.
Step 5: Find some helpers
A bake sale can be a hugely successful way to raise money. Ask everyone who’s happy to help to bake something for the event.
Do you know a great quizmaster or bingo caller? Does anyone fancy picking the best outfit? Getting as many people involved as possible will make your event a big success.
Step 6: What will you wear?
Plan ahead. If you're in an office that has a dress code, or have to wear a uniform, you can find other ways to Wear It Pink. Think pink socks. Pink ties. Pink accessories.
If you’re a bigger organisation, each team can choose a different theme and you could award a prize for the best-dressed team to encourage everyone to get involved.
Step 7: Send reminders
Send a message around a week before your event, and another the day before to remind your colleagues to wear something pink. This is also a good time to share your JustGiving link for them to donate.
Step 8: Gift Aid it
Gift Aid allows us to claim back an extra 25% of each donation given to Breast Cancer Now by an eligible UK taxpayer at no extra cost to them. This is an easy and free way to increase your donation!
Find out more about Gift Aid and download your forms.
Step 9: Wear It Pink!
So, you’ve organised and planned, and the day is finally here! The last thing you need to do is to take pictures and share them with us!
Tag Breast Cancer Now on Facebook or use the hashtag #WearItPink on Instagram and TikTok. Make sure you have everyone’s permission before posting!
You can also send us any photos at wearitpink@breastcancernow.org - we absolutely love seeing what you get up to on the day.
If you have any questions, pop us an email.
Go to work. Wear pink. Save lives.
