Your guide to Gift Aid

Gift Aid is a brilliant way to boost your Afternoon Tea fundraising. Guests can increase the value of their donations and it doesn’t cost you or them a penny. All they have to do is check they’re eligible, give us their permission and we’ll do the rest. 

How can you help us raise even more money?  

With Gift Aid, your guests can increase the value of their donation by 25% without spending another penny. This means we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 of their donation – amazing, right? They just need to be a UK taxpayer and check if they agree with the Gift Aid statement. 

If someone made a £20 donation, was eligible and filled in the Gift Aid form, we can claim £5 back. £5 could give 25 people a copy of our After breast cancer treatment guide. It’s filled with information about how you might feel after treatment, ways of coping and being breast and body aware. 

How can Breast Cancer Now claim this extra money?   

Use the Gift Aid form in your fundraising pack or download and print a form. It's quick and simple to fill out - just ask your eligible guests to add their full name, address and postcode (home addresses only please), gift amount and gift date. Most importantly, they need to tick the Gift Aid box, or we won’t be able to claim the extra cash.  

If you’re the Afternoon Tea organiser, please remember that every individual donation must be added to the form, along with the donor’s details and their permission to Gift Aid.   

Please note: We can only claim Gift Aid on voluntary donations, so if you’re selling cakes (or other items), ask for a suggested donation instead of a set price. We can’t claim Gift Aid on money raised through the sale of raffle tickets.  

Can’t I just Gift Aid the total amount I raised? 

Unfortunately not. We can only claim Gift Aid on eligable personal donations and not the entire amount raised at your Afternoon Tea event. The sponsorship form provides the opportunity for any eligible donors to make an individual Gift Aid declaration with their donation.  

Gift Aid can have a huge impact 

The money raised through Gift Aid can make a huge difference to Breast Cancer Now’s world-class research and life-changing support.  

Last year amazing Afternoon Tea fundraisers raised over £70,000 using the Gift Aid scheme.  That £70,000 could pay for a year of research. That’s a year for a researcher to better understand breast cancer. Work on their project. And find new ways to diagnose, treat and prevent the disease. How amazing is that? 

But we know we can aim higher with Gift Aid and raise more! So we’re encouraging all Afternoon Tea hosts to promote the scheme to eligible guests and boost donations by 25% without spending another penny. 

What you can do 

• Use the Gift Aid form in your fundraising pack or download and print a form

• Promote the Gift Aid scheme for voluntary donations at your tea

• Ask your eligible guests to add their full name, address and postcode (home addresses only please), gift amount, gift date and tick the box
• Post the form to Freepost AFTERNOON TEA (no other address lines required)
