I’d recommend the online event to anyone in my situation. The topics we discussed were interesting and I could ask questions of the nurse and other patients. It was a welcoming place where I could chat to other women who understood what I’m going through. It has helped me feel less alone.

FAQs

  • Is this event for me?

You'll take part from the comfort of your own home, joining a small group of other women diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. To join you'll be:

    • A woman aged 20 to 45
    • Diagnosed with secondary breast cancer
    • Living in the UK or British national living or working abroad
    • Where possible have access to a device with a webcam and you will need a reliable internet connection
  • Why should I take part?

    People tell us that:

    • They liked being able to connect with other women their age
    • The Q&A session where you can ask questions is really valuable
    • The facilitator was flexible and adapted to the needs of the group

We've found that the 3-week event is often attended by people within their first year of a secondary breast cancer diagnosis.

  • What can I expect in each session?

Here’s a sample of what you can expect for the 3 weeks. Please note, this may vary.

    • Week 1 - we'll focus on letting you get to know one another and connecting
    • Week 2 - there'll be a Q&A session with our secondary breast cancer clinical nurse specialist, where you'll be able to ask her any questions you may have
    • Week 3 - our experienced counsellor will help you to think about adjusting and adapting to a life-limiting illness and then lead a mindfulness session to close the event
  • Who runs the events?

Our staff run the events and send you relevant information. A qualified therapist will facilitate each of the 3 sessions. We'll send you more information about our team when you register.

  • What if I can’t make one of the three sessions?

We hope you can join each session, but we understand if you can’t make one week for various reasons.

If this happens, please let us know you won't make it by calling 0345 077 1893 or emailing us at youngerwomen@breastcancernow.org If we don't hear from you we may be in touch to check you are ok. We can also let you know the dates of the next event if you want to reschedule to attend those dates instead.

You are very welcome to continue coming to the other week sessions.

  • Do I have to speak or go on camera?

If you can, we'd like you to keep your camera on because it helps everyone feel more connected. If there isn’t a camera on your computer, don’t worry.

We'll also invite you to speak to introduce yourself and ask any questions and also contribute to group discussions if you feel comfortable doing so.

  • I have a different question, can you help?

If you have any questions that we haven’t answered, call us on 0345 077 1893 or email us at youngerwomen@breastcancernow.org. We’re always here to help.

  • Are the events accessible?

If you need support to take part, call our services team on 0345 077 1893 or email servicesbusinesssupport@breastcancernow.org. We’ll do what we can to make reasonable adjustments.
