Reasonable adjustments for service users with a disability

We’re committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all our services.

If you have a disability, we’ll do everything we can to accommodate you and your needs. But given the nature of some situations, this might not always be possible. We’re always trying to improve, and we’d love to hear from you about how we can make our services more accessible and be as inclusive as possible for everyone.

Everyone affected by breast cancer can turn to us for support. So we want to make sure that no one faces any barriers when using our services.

If you have a disability and would like to use one of our services, we’ll do everything we can to make sure they’re accessible to you.

How we make our services accessible

  • All the venues we use are wheelchair accessible and have accessible toilets
  • Where we can, we choose venues on the ground floor
  • We’ll let you know if there are other adjustments at the venue already, like hearing loops
  • Our online videos are subtitled where possible
  • We can write to you in a larger font size
  • Our health information comes in Braille and audio formats
  • Some of our most popular health information publications are available in easy read formats

Our promise to you

If you need more support to take part in our services, we’ll do our best to make reasonable adjustments. You can talk to our services team about the support you might need by calling 0345 077 1893 or emailing accessfund@breastcancernow.org.

We look at every request individually. So, while we’ll always aim to get back to you as quickly as possible, we might need more time to consider some requests.

We use the following approach

We understand that everyone is unique, and one person’s needs might be different from someone else’s - even if their disabilities are similar.

  • As part of our registration process, we’ll ask you if you need any additional support from us
  • We’ll do our best to support you, but if we can’t, we’ll make sure it’s clear why
  • We’ll review our practices in line with feedback from you and other service users

How we decide what's reasonable

  • Practicality
How practical it is for us to make the adjustment?
  • Effectiveness
How effective is the adjustment likely to be in preventing disadvantage? What difference would the adjustment make?
  • Finance and resources
What costs might there be, and are there resources available to make the adjustment?

The Equality Act 2010

Under the Equality Act 2010, and as a charity providing services for the public, we must and want to do everything we can to make sure that people with disabilities aren’t disadvantaged when using our services.

Sometimes, this means that we might treat people with disabilities differently to people without disabilities. This helps us to remove barriers to our services that people with disabilities could otherwise face.
