What you can expect from us

The Someone Like Me email support service is subject to routine monitoring by Breast Cancer Now staff to ensure quality and safety.

Your details and information will be kept private and confidential within Breast Cancer Now.

We will never share your information with third parties for their own purposes unless this is explained to you at the time we collect your information, you give us your permission to, or we are legally required to do so, or we have another lawful basis for sharing such information.

There are some exceptional circumstances where we may pass on personal information for example:

  • We believe someone is at serious risk of harm, either from themselves or others
  • We receive a court order requiring us to divulge information
  • We are passed information relating to an act of terrorism

You can read more about how we will use your information in our Privacy policy.

This service does not offer medical or clinical healthcare advice. Any comments by volunteers about their experience of medication or healthcare are strictly personal. You should always check with your own medical team if you have any concerns about your condition or treatment.

We may refer your enquiry to our Ask the Nurse email service where a member of our Clinical team will respond to your enquiry if this is deemed more appropriate.

The volunteer will not ask you for personal details such as your phone number or address, and they will not offer their personal information to you. This service does not offer face-to-face support – however the volunteers can offer information on other services available from Breast Cancer Now.

What we ask from you

Breast Cancer Now has a zero tolerance policy on abusive language, personal attacks, bullying and harassment. Offending comments will be reported to the service manager and conversations suspended. Bullying and harassment may result in a temporary or permanent ban. In such cases we will communicate with you to explain our actions and the length of any ban.

When using the service we will invite you to give feedback. This is important as it helps us to improve and develop the service.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Someone Like Me team on 0345 077 1893 or email someonelikeme@breastcancernow.org.
