For every case of breast cancer we can't prevent, we must stop it from taking lives. For that, we need kinder, more effective treatments.
What are we trying to achieve?
There are many areas we need to research to ensure that by 2050 everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live.
Our researchers are looking for new treatments that can be better tailored to each type of breast cancer. They are trying to understand why breast cancer spreads to other parts of the body where it becomes incurable and what can be done to stop it or treat it more effectively.
Our achievements in better treatments
New tests
Test to show if people with ER-positive breast cancer will benefit from post-surgery chemo.
Triple negative trial
A clinical trial that changed how secondary triple negative breast cancer is treated.
Creating new targeted treatments
Helped develop the life-saving targeted use of olaparib for some people with BRCA1/2 gene changes.
Old drugs, new tricks
Discovered that breast cancers with change in a specific gene may benefit from PARP inhibitors.
Boosting breast cancer treatment
New therapy target - A protein called RAC1B can help breast cancer become resistant to treatment.
Improving the effectiveness of immunotherapy
A type of immunotherapy could be more effective when a specific immune cell is targeted too.
