Update: How you’re shaping breast cancer research and support

Over the past few months, you’ve been part of lots of different opportunities, sharing your experiences with us and with researchers and healthcare professionals.

Here are a few comments from different people about the difference you’ve made to their work:

"We were pleased to see so much interest from people wanting to join the project advisory group. Contributions from people with lived experience will make a real difference to the project."
(Oxford Brookes University, Shaping research to raise awareness about alcohol and breast cancer)

"Really useful input, has guided timings of when to approach potential study participants, and improved the content of information for potential and recruited participants."
(Emma Belilios, Newcastle hospitals NHS foundation trust, Comparing a new imaging technology with current standard treatment)

"The women that attended the workshop were totally wonderful, they were engaging, and keen to learn about the project and the work we are doing and so generous in sharing their experiences of radiotherapy. We have learnt such a lot from their experiences that we are now reviewing carefully the content we gained from the workshop to see how we can improve future delivery of radiotherapy for breast cancer in both the supine and upright position."
(Heidi Probst, Sheffield Hallam University, Exploring ways to improve how radiotherapy is given)

"Having a good number of responses to our survey helped us gather evidence about the importance of our research proposal and to find cancer patients collaborators."
(F. Javier Rubio, University College London, The impact of support networks for people with breast cancer)

"We were able to share real life experiences of complementary therapies, which will be really useful for people affected by breast cancer."
(Lizz Bricknell, Breast Cancer Now, Using complementary therapies during and after breast cancer)

"The involvement of Breast Cancer Voices in doing interviews and completing the survey about their information and support needs was invaluable in making sure that patient experience informs the development of our services in the future."
(Charlotte Simpson, Breast Cancer Now, Help shape the future of our services)

"The Voices’ interviews helped shape the way we use words at Breast Cancer Now. Everything from how we talk about breast cancer, to the tone we use, to the way we lay words out on the page or screen. Ultimately, their feedback helped to make sure that our communications are truly focused on people affected by breast cancer."
(Daisy Lindlar, Breast Cancer Now, Tone of Voice project)

Thank you for everything you do, and continue to do, as part of Breast Cancer Voices. Your voice is changing and improving breast cancer research and support, which will make a huge difference to people diagnosed with breast cancer in the future.
