What a year! As we draw to the end of this year, we’re so proud of everything Voices have achieved.
Since our relaunch, you’ve supported 22 Breast Cancer Now teams with 65 projects, contributed to 28 research studies and supported 24 other external projects.
So, where are we going now?
We’re excited to announce that the patient experience team is growing and expanding and will take on full oversight of Breast Cancer Voices as part of our efforts to improve the way we engage with you and the support we give our colleagues.
After a competitive recruitment process – overseen by myself, Emily (our head of volunteering) and Fola (a Voices volunteer) – Sarah Appleton joined the team as our new Involvement Officer. We’ll introduce her properly in January’s bulletin and she can’t wait to meet you all and find new ways to develop our relationship.
We’re sad to lose Anna and Elliot from the volunteering hub who’ll be stepping back from Breast Cancer Voices, but we’ll continue to have support from Beth in our supporter services team to help with the administrative tasks, as well as our amazing office and telephone volunteers.
What’s the plan for next year?
The strategy and vision for involving the voices of lived experience in all Breast Cancer Now’s work is completely built on your insights and perspectives as Voices members, combined with the needs of our colleagues.
We’ll stay focused on providing ways for you to have a voice in our work and the wider field of breast cancer and keeping you up to date on how you’re having an impact.
But we also want to do more!
We’ll be developing a long-term plan for all our communications with you, improving how we make it a positive and impactful experience to be part of Voices. This will include how we invite and include new members, particularly those from diverse communities to ensure we’re really representing every voice.
Help shape the next year
We started out with an ambitious plan – set together with Voices in our co-creation workshop – which established our values, what you want to hear about, and how we should engage with you and recognise your contributions.
We need your feedback to help us understand where we’re living up to our ambitions, what your experience has been, and ideas for taking the community forward.
If you haven’t already completed the evaluation survey, there’s still time!
