Celebrating the past year of Voices

As we start a new financial year as a charity, it’s a great opportunity to look back at everything we’ve achieved together over the past 12 months, and look to the future.

Growing as a community

Over the past year, we’ve grown from 982 to 1,319 people. It’s amazing to see how many people across the UK want to get involved and change things for people affected by breast cancer.

Over 60% of our Voices are louder Voices. This means we have a large pool of people who we can contact throughout the month with more urgent and personalised opportunities.

Getting stuck in!

In the past 12 months, you’ve taken part in 129 different opportunities! This includes:

  • 32 research studies
  • 15 opportunities to shape research
  • 9 project groups
  • 6 patient representative roles
  • 20 surveys
  • 10 focus groups or workshops
  • 8 speaker roles

And much more!

You’ve helped to shape breast cancer research, care and support. And you’ve driven our work as a charity and made a huge impact on the work that we do.

We really can't overstate how important it was to receive Voices’ feedback as it allowed us to focus in on the right messaging, and steer away from the wrong thing.

A powerful impact

94% of project leads agree that involving Voices in their work added value to the project, and 100% would recommend working with Breast Cancer Voices.

The involvement of Voices in our project was extremely valuable. The research conducted with the members confirmed our assumptions about the best ways to refer people to a breast diagnostic clinic. Having this evidence will be very important in ensuring that we progress this project further. Thank you so much for taking the time to participate.

A positive experience

And we know that you enjoy taking part in opportunities and being able to make a difference.

I feel I help make a difference by joining in, and it's never too demanding time-wise; there is a good range of opportunities.

The team were very open to listening to feedback and making changes and providing copies of draft documentation for approval before going ahead.

Involvement team Theory of Change

I was able to give valuable information for this project. I was delighted to be involved and know my input will add positive results.

What’s next?

Over the next year, we’ll be working hard to continue to make sure that you’re able to take part in opportunities that are interesting and fulfilling to you.

We know there are also some areas we can improve on, and so we’ll be specifically look at

  • Making sure that we’re welcome Voices to the community properly, helping you feel connected to the charity and to each other
  • Ensuirng that we’re doing better at giving you feedback and updates about the difference you’re making
  • Understanding the barriers that people can face which can stop you taking part in projects, and improving the accessibility and inclusivity of the opportunities we share
  • Improving how we record who’s getting involved in projects, which will help us to better report on our impact

We’re excited for the next year, and are looking forward to seeing Breast Cancer Voices continue to grow and strengthen!
