Understanding Bangladeshi women's experiences of breast cancer services

Categories: Bangladeshi, Patient and carer

Take part in an interview about the experiences of Bangladeshi women with breast cancer to help a post-graduate student identify topics for further research.

What’s the project about?

Research studies show that Bangladeshi women tend to have low awareness about breast cancer (for example, less likely to recognise five or more non-lump symptoms) and lower uptake of breast screening, which have a direct impact on their health outcomes.

In this project, a postgraduate student is wanting to understand the experiences of Bangladeshi women and breast cancer detection and care

They hope that this can help to shape further research into how best to reduce health inequalities for Bangladeshi women.

Who can take part?

The student would like to hear from Bangladeshi women who

  • Have any views on breast cancer they want to discuss
  • Have attended breast care screening OR chose not to attend screening
  • Have experience of breast cancer as a patient

They would also like to hear from:

  • Anyone from the Bangladeshi community who has cared for/has a family member affected by breast cancer
  • Healthcare professionals or researchers with views on how Bangladeshi women engage with breast cancer services

Why do you want me to be involved?

By talking about your experiences, you can help identify ways that Bangladeshi women’s breast cancer awareness and use of breast cancer services could be improved.

What will you ask me to do?

You’ll be invited to an informal interview with the student. This will take place either via Microsoft Teams of on the phone.

The interview should last around 20 minutes and can arranged for a time that suits you. Anything you share will be anonymous.
