Reducing radiotherapy after neoadjuvant chemotherapy

Join an online focus group to help researchers set the priorities for a clinical trial looking at the role of radiotherapy when combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

What’s the project about?

Currently radiotherapy is offered to certain people after breast surgery or a mastectomy. This was shown to decrease the risk of local recurrence and improve outcomes.

However, due to advancements in detection and treatment, researchers are now revisiting the role of radiotherapy when people have had neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

They’re designing a clinical trial to investigate whether radiotherapy improves outcomes for people with breast cancer who’ve had breast surgery and neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

They want to make sure that they understand what’s important to people with breast cancer, to make sure that the trial aligns with their priorities.

Who’s organising it?

Name of project lead: Shaveta Mehta

Job title: Clinical Oncologist

Organisation: Birmingham CRUK Clinical Trial Unit

Who can take part?

You can take part if you’ve been diagnosed with and had treatment for breast cancer.

The researchers are especially interested in hearing from people who

  • Have had radiotherapy
  • Are from ethnic minority backgrounds

Why do you want me to be involved?

By understanding your experience of breast cancer treatment and of living with or beyond breast cancer, you can help the researchers decide on the priorities for the trial.

What will you ask me to do?

You’ll be invited to join a 1-hour online focus group on Wednesday 23 October from 1 to 2pm.

At the focus group, you’ll be able to share your experience of breast cancer and give your opinion on what the trial should focus on or include.

When’s the deadline?

21 October 2024
