Predicting kidney and liver damage during chemotherapy

Share your views on what data the new National Audits of Primary and Metastatic Breast Cancer should collect to help improve care for people with breast cancer.

What’s the project?

Chemotherapy is a common way of treating cancer. But, it can increase the risk of kidney and liver damage. This project aims to build a screening tool that can better predict someone’s risk of kidney and liver damage during chemotherapy. This screening tool could mean patients at low risk of kidney and liver damage will need to make fewer trips to the hospital for blood tests. Patients at higher risk can receive better care.

Researchers would like to use focus groups to understand the views of people with experience of chemotherapy on the screening tool. They would like to understand whether people would use it or not. And, what people would like to see included in the tool.

What will you ask me to do?

You will be asked to join a focus group for 1 hr and 30 minutes. The focus group will be a video call using Microsoft Teams. Or if you can’t access Teams, you can also participate over the phone.

Some of the topics that will be discussed are:

  • Your experience with the current way of monitoring the risk of developing kidney and liver damage
  • Your views on the project and role of the screening tool in predicting and managing the risk of kidney and liver damage

NB Researchers from UCL Hospitals and Durham University have partnered with Evergreen Life in this project, for their experience implementing digital health solutions in clinical settings. The focus group will be led by Angelo Ercia from Evergreen Life due to his experience in patient involvement.

You will receive a £25 gift card to thank you for your participation.

Who can take part?

You must be over 18 years of age and have received chemotherapy.
