Patient representative – reconstruction and plastic surgery

Categories: NHS Plastic Surgery, Patient & Carer

The British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) is looking for a current or past user of NHS plastic surgery services to represent the views of patients on their Council.

What’s the project?

The British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) is the voice of plastic surgery in the UK. Their aim is to advance education in the specialty and promote understanding of plastic surgery practice.

The Association is governed by a Council made up of elected trustees and invited representatives from specific backgrounds.

They’re looking to appoint a new patient representative, who will ensure that the views of patients, carers and families are taken into consideration in relevant areas of Association business.

Why do you want me to be involved?

Your experience in plastic surgery services in the NHS from a patient point of view will help ensure the Council keeps the views of patients, families and the public in their decision-making.

What will you ask me to do?

The selected patient representative Council member will need to:

  • Attend Council meetings (three times a year) and act as a representative of the group when required
  • Contribute at meetings by offering ideas and opinions which reflect the voice of patients, carers and their families
  • Contribute to project work, including collaborative working with other group members and working autonomously

Further details on time commitment and expectations are provided in the role description.

Note that meetings take place in-person in London. Remote participation is available but in person attendance is encouraged.

Who can take part?

The patient representative may be

  • A current or past patient/service user of NHS plastic surgery services, or a parent/carer of a user of those services
  • A member of the public with an interest or relevant experience
