Making our volunteering roles more accessible

Categories: Patient & Carer, Minority Ethnic Group

Join a project group looking at how we can make our volunteering roles more accessible to different groups of people, to ensure that our volunteers and activities represent and benefit more people affected by breast cancer.

What’s the project about?

Volunteering is vital to our work, and we want our volunteering opportunities to be accessible to everyone, so that we can be more inclusive, and represent the whole breast cancer community in everything we do.

As part of our equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) action plan, the volunteer hub wants to be able to recruit more volunteers from Black, Asian and other ethnic minority backgrounds.

We’re looking for people from these backgrounds to join a project group to change the way we recruit volunteers to make it more accessible for people from more diverse backgrounds.

We’re holding an information session where you can find out more about the project and join the project group.

Who can take part?

We’d like to recruit group members from a Black, Asian or other ethnic minority background.

You can join whether or not you’ve ever volunteered – it’ll be helpful for us to understand the perspectives both of people who have volunteered before, and people who’ve never volunteered.

If you have recruitment or marketing experience these would be welcomed, but it’s not required.

Why do you want me to be involved?

We want to hear about your experiences or views on volunteering so that we can understand more about your motivations or barriers to volunteering. This will allow us to think about how we advertise, recruit, induct and support our volunteers.

Ultimately we want to ensure that volunteering is inclusive and represents the whole of the breast cancer community, so that we can support as many people as possible.

What will you ask me to do?

The project group will run from June to October 2024 and will have regular meetings.

We want to invite you to an information session where you can find out more about the specific aims of the group and what you’ll do as a member.

At the session, you’ll have the chance to ask any questions you may have, and to sign up afterwards.

We want to find a time that suits everyone for the session, so if you’d like to join, Kylie will be in touch to ask you when works best for you.
