Improving research into palliative and end of life care

Categories: Patient & Carer, Life Limiting Illness

Complete a survey to help researchers understand how future research can better reflect what’s most important to people living with a life limiting illness and their loved ones.

What’s the project about?

This project aims to ask people living with life limiting illness, and those close to them, what they think future research should focus on.

A life limiting illness is a condition that can’t be cured and will shorten someone’s life, although they may continue to live an active life for many years. This includes secondary breast cancer, as well as other conditions such as

  • Other types of cancer
  • Organ failure
  • Dementia
  • Parkinson’s
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Motor Neurone Disease

The aim of the project is to make sure that future research about palliative and end of life care addresses issues or topics that are important to people with a life-limiting illness, and the people around them.

Who can take part?

You can take part if you

  • Are living with a serious life-limiting illness – you don’t have to be accessing palliative care.
  • Care for a loved one or someone you know who has a serious life-limiting illness
  • Have had a family member or friend who’s died following a serious life limiting illness
  • Are a health, social care or other professional supporting people with serious life-limiting illnesses
  • Are a Volunteer supporting people with serious life-limiting illnesses
  • Have an interest in palliative and end of life care

Why do you want me to be involved?

This is an under-researched area which requires greater attention and focus.  By answering this survey you’ll provide the questions that will shape future research on palliative and end of life research and make sure it reflects the priorities and needs of people affected by a life limiting illness.

What will you ask me to do?

Complete a short online survey. It’ll take about 10 minutes and you’ll have the chance to talk about what problems or needs you think should be addressed in future research.

If you need support completing the survey or would like it in a different format or language, you can contact peolcpsp@mariecurie.org.uk

If you feel upset by anything in this survey, you can find support on our website, or call our nurse’s helpline on 0808 800 6000.
