Improving clinical trials in secondary breast cancer

Categories: SecondaryBC, Diagnosis<5years

Join a focus group and discuss your experiences of secondary breast cancer to help shape future clinical trials and make sure they’re accessible for everyone.

What’s the project about?

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)’s Clinical Research Network works with the Life Science Industry (pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies) to involve people with lived experience of cancer in designing commercial trials. These are clinical trials funded by the Life Science Industry. They want to make sure that the objectives of trials meet your needs and priorities so that the outcomes are beneficial to you.

They’re helping to design a commercial trial in secondary breast cancer.

They’re running workshops with people who have been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer to understand their experiences so that they can make sure the trial is designed to be appropriate, accessible and beneficial for the people they’re aimed at.

Who can take part?

You may be eligible take part if you’ve been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer within the past 5 years and are willing to discuss your experiences of living with secondary breast cancer

Why do you want me to be involved?

By sharing your experiences, you can help the NIHR understand your specific needs and challenges you may face. This will help the trials they run improve quality of life for people with secondary breast cancer. And, make sure that trials are designed to be as accessible as possible.

What will you ask me to do?

The NIHR is planning to hold online workshops between 21 and 28 April. You can let the facilitators know what days or times work best for you.

You’ll be invited to join a workshop with 5 other people, where you’ll have the opportunity to talk about a range of different topics. This will include your experience of living with secondary breast cancer and how you manage your condition. You’ll also be invited to give feedback on the design of a trial.

The workshops will last for up to 2 hours.

You’ll be reimbursed £100 for your time. You can read about payment, tax, and national insurance on their website
