A stethoscope shaped like a heart

Giving patients and carers a voice in healthcare education

Categories: Patients & Carers, Healthcare Education

Help healthcare students learn in a new way! Your voice could help healthcare practitioners across the globe.

What’s the project?

The most important part of healthcare is treating the person, not just the condition. The World Health Organisation agrees, with a global shift towards person-centred care already in motion. At heart of this shift is education and this project is helping placing patient perspectives at the centre of healthcare courses.

We are building on the University of Oxford Vice-Chancellor's Education Award winning platform, SmashMedicine, to further improve student learning. By gathering anonymised patient stories we help students learn from patients, not just from textbooks. Your experience will be stored and shared across the globe to help current and future healthcare students.

Why do you want me to be involved?

We need you to be our experts. Your voice is uniquely important – nobody else in the world can tell current and future healthcare professionals how it feels to be you. Your story could highlight something that could help generations of future patients to receive better care, and generations of professionals across the multidisciplinary team to think about the people they care for in a different way.

What will you ask me to do?

No matter the interaction, we want to know what matters to you when you are/were receiving professional help with your condition. We will ask you to share any important experience and anything you would want to tell a healthcare student to help them learn. Your voice will help develop the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Who can take part?

Any individual who wants to share their experience with healthcare!
