Event: Understanding and informing research into secondary breast cancer in the bone

Hear about the latest research into secondary breast cancer in the bone, and help researchers understand the experiences and needs of people living with it.

What’s the project about?

OncoEng is an ongoing project looking at care for bone metastases. It uses new technology aiming to identify which spinal bones (vertebrae) are at risk of fracture and using minimally invasive implants to reduce this risk.

They’re running an event in Leeds to give researchers the chance to talk to people with bone metastases, or who are caring for someone with bone metastases, to understand their experiences, and needs.

Who can take part?

People with, or who care for someone with, secondary breast cancer in the spine.

Why do you want me to be involved?

This event will give the chance for researchers to understand the challenges faced by people living with bone metastases and how this can impact on their lives. And, to make sure that they’re able to explain their research to people without a scientific background.

What will you ask me to do?

You’ll be invited to attend the OncoEng event on 13 July 2023 at the Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds. The event runs from 9.15am to 4pm.

In the morning, you’ll talk to researchers about your experience of living with bone metastases and ask questions about their research into secondary bone tumours.

In the afternoon, the researchers will present their current work. You’ll have the chance to ask questions and give feedback about how easy it was to engage with.

You’ll be given £100 to thank you for your time, and travel will be reimbursed. Refreshments will be provided.

There’ll also be an opportunity to visit the Thackray Medical Museum free of charge.

The event address is:
