A woman looking in the mirror

Body image and breast cancer

Categories: Body Image

Share your views to help develop an online programme aimed at improving body image and self-esteem following a breast cancer diagnosis.

What’s the project?

The Centre for Appearance Research at the University of the West of England, Bristol is exploring how an existing in-person programme - “Accepting your body after cancer” - could be adapted for online access in order to reach more women.

You can read more about the research in the information sheet.

The researchers are interested in hearing from any woman who has had a breast cancer diagnosis, but are particularly keen to include currently underrepresented voices, including people from different ethnic groups and from the LGBTQ+ community.

They are offering £35 as a thank you for your valuable insights and perspectives.

Why do you want me to be involved?

The existing programme has been very highly rated amongst women who have attended, and the researchers would like to hear your views about how it could be adapted to enable more people to attend by being available online.

Your insights could help ensure the programme is developed sensitively and effectively and has Included perspectives from a range of communities and voices about what matters to you.

What will you ask me to do?

There is a short survey to complete to register your interest. Researchers will then be in touch to set up an interview where you can share your views in more details.

You'll be offered £35 as a thank you for your time and insights.

Who can take part?

All women who have had a breast cancer diagnosis are eligible to take part. However, the researchers are particularly keen to include currently underrepresented voices, including people from different ethnic groups and from the LGBTQ+ community.
