Women’s perspectives of male mammographers

Help researchers understand how women in Scotland feel about potentially introducing male mammographers to the NHS breast screening programme.

What’s the study about?

Currently, the NHS breast screening programme only employs female mammographers.

Researchers at Queen Margaret University want to understand women’s perspective on introducing male mammographers into the breast screening service, as this workforce change could relieve pressure on the service.

Who can take part?

To take part in this study you must be:

  • Aged 45 to 71
  • Eligible for breast screening
  • Able to answer the questionnaire in English
  • Currently living in Scotland

Why do you want me to be involved?

No study to date has explored how women in Scotland feel about introducing male mammographers. By helping with this research, you could contribute to science and inform future healthcare decisions.

What will you ask me to do?

You’ll be invited to complete an online survey. The survey will ask you about how you’d feel about having a male mammographer at a breast screening appointment.

You can find out more by reading the participant information sheet.

If you want to ask the researchers questions about the study, you can contact female.perspectives1@gmail.com.
