Share your experience and views on alcohol consumption, and help researchers find ways to support women wanting to reduce their alcohol intake.
What’s the study about?
Drinking alcohol is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, but many people are not aware of this link.
This study aims to increase knowledge about alcohol use and the risk of breast cancer. And to support women who wish to reduce their drinking.
The findings of this study will help inform tools that can be used to support women wishing to reduce their alcohol consumption as well as help design an awareness campaign about the risks of alcohol.
Who can take part?
You can take part if you are a woman (or were assigned female at birth) between the ages of 40 and 65, and you reside in the UK.
The researchers are looking to speak to people who currently drink alcohol. Or people who used to drink alcohol in the past but no longer do so.
The researchers are particularly interested in hearing from women from ethnic minority groups. These groups are currently under-represented in alcohol research.
Why do you want me to be involved?
By hearing from people whose experience of breast cancer has been impacted by alcohol, the researchers can make sure that the support developed is inclusive, non-judgemental and beneficial for women. And, that any information produced is clearly communicated in a way that people will engage with.
What will you ask me to do?
The study is split into 3 stages. You don’t have to take part in all stages and can simply take part in stage 1 if you prefer.
The first stage will be an anonymous questionnaire. It’ll include questions about you, your alcohol consumption, and your views about alcohol. You’ll also be asked to share your views about how the researchers should design an awareness campaign about alcohol and breast cancer.
The second stage will be a focus group which will last 45-60 minutes. If you take part in this stage, you’ll be given a £30 voucher for taking part.
The last stage will consist of an online workshop to help design the awareness campaign. This will also help decide how women can be supported if they wish to reduce their alcohol consumption. If you attend this workshop, you’ll be provided with £75 worth of vouchers to compensate your time.
