Take part in an interview exploring the experiences of women with breast cancer who’ve used hypnosis to manage emotional or physical pain.
What’s the title of the study?
A qualitative study (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis) to explore experiences, attitudes, and perceptions to hypnosis as a chronic pain management intervention, on the quality of life of women diagnosed with breast cancer pain, and of practitioners as to its utility as an intervention in cancer pain management.
What’s the study about?
People use hypnosis for managing pain around the world. But, there’s limited research in the UK that looks at hypnotherapy for cancer-related pain. And not many people in the UK use hypnotherapy as a pain management tool.
This research project is exploring the experiences of women with breast cancer who’ve used hypnosis to manage emotional or phyiscal pain. They hope that by better understanding the effect of hypnotherapy on cancer pain, they can dispel some of the myths surrounding it.
Who can take part?
You can take part if you:
- Are a woman
- Have been diagnosed with breast cancer
- Have had hypnosis for cancer pain management within the last 5 years
For this study, pain can mean emotional and/or physical pain.
Why do you want me to be involved?
Everyone’s experiences are unique. And sharing your experience of hypnotherapy could help influence new research into hypnosis for pain management. This could lead to more widespread use of hypnotherapy in cancer care in the UK.
What will you ask me to do?
You’ll attend an online interview where you’ll share your experiences of using hypnosis for pain management. Your identity and information will be anonymised in the study.
