Help test a psychological intervention for cancer patients

You can help test a new type of psychological intervention for people who have gone through cancer treatment who have faced challenges in their their health and wellbeing.

What is the project about?

SURECAN – Survivors’ Rehabilitation Evaluation after Cancer – is a study by Queen Mary University of London and King’s College London. We are developing and testing a new psychological intervention for people who have successfully completed treatment for cancer but experience poor quality of life.

SURECAN is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which helps patients accept what cannot be changed and commit themselves to values-based goals. We have adapted ACT to incorporate optional elements supporting increased physical activity and/or return to work, where these match participants’ personal values. We have also adapted the intervention to be sensitive to participants from diverse backgrounds.

What are the criteria for taking part?

You may be eligible if you are 18+, completed main treatment for breast cancer within two years and are maybe struggling with your health or wellbeing. You will need to have been a patient at the following NHS Trusts: Barts, University College London, Sheffield, Homerton, King’s College.
