Decisions about breast reconstruction for Black and minority ethnic women

Take part in an interview to help researchers understand why women from Black and minority ethnic communities may or may not choose to have breast reconstruction, and what information and support they need.

What’s the study about?

There’s currently a lack of research about what factors influence decisions around breast reconstruction for women from Black and other minority ethnic communities who’ve had breast cancer.

This project aims to help researcher better understand why women may or may not choose to have breast reconstruction. They also want to find out what advice, information or support is helpful for women from Black and minority ethnic communities to have when making these decision.

Who can take part?

You can take part if you’re over 18 and

  • Are from a Black or minority ethnic community
  • Have had a diagnosis of primary breast cancer (stages 0 to 3)

And have either

  • Undergone immediate or delayed reconstruction within the last 5 years
  • Chosen not to have breast reconstructive surgery

Why do you want me to be involved?

By taking part, you can help the researcher better understand the experiences of Black and minority ethnic women. This could lead to the development of specific and effective future support for women who are considering breast reconstruction.

What will you ask me to do?

You’ll be invited to an interview with the researcher at a time that works for you. This will be either face to face or online via Microsoft Teams. The interview will last about and hour.

During the interview they’ll ask you a series of questions about why you chose to have or not have a reconstruction and what further information or support would have been useful.

You’ll receive £20 to thank you for your time.
