Set up a new fundraising group

Gather your friends, family and colleagues and set up your own fundraising group. Your efforts will raise money for life-changing breast cancer research and care.

Are you looking for a new, meaningful way to spend your time? How about one where you’ll be making a difference to the lives of anyone affected by breast cancer?

If this sounds like you, then setting up a new local fundraising group is perfect. Gather your friends, family or colleagues and raise money for vital breast cancer research and care.

We'll be there every step of the way to help you set up your group and give you all the support you need.

What will I be doing?

As a community fundraising group leader, you’ll work with the rest of the group to put on a calendar of fundraising events and activity in your community. You’ll be able to play to your strengths and interests too. Here’s an idea of what you could be doing:

  • Leading the group in organising and promoting events such as a coffee morning, afternoon tea, curry night, a ball, BBQ, quiz night, or anything else that takes your fancy
  • Organising group bucket collections or bag packs at the local supermarket
  • Lead group meetings, share ideas and make plans for upcoming events
  • Encouraging other group members to take an active role in fundraising and give their time to help with events
  • Recruiting new members to your group
  • Connecting your Breast Cancer Now relationship manager to local companies and clubs and societies so we can form new fundraising partnerships

You could also get involved with representing us locally by:

  • Raising awareness about breast cancer and how people can support us, by giving talks at a range of events or manning a charity information stand at events like local exhibitions
  • Attending a cheque presentation on our behalf at other supporters’ events
  • Signposting local people affected by breast cancer to our life-changing support, like our Helpline and online courses

What skills and qualities do I need?

  • Motivated with lots of initiative
  • Confidence and communication skills
  • Organisational and planning skills
  • Comfortable with cash handling and good numeracy skills
  • Access to a vehicle, or good transport links

What commitment is needed?

This is a flexible role and is designed to fit around your lifestyle. You would need to:

  • Set up and lead a fundraising group that will deliver a calendar of fundraising activity, for a minimum period of two years
  • Complete an induction and training on health and safety and fundraising management
  • Commit to working within our policies and guidelines, including donor and volunteer confidentiality, and equal opportunities
  • Give references, criminal self-declaration and adhere to our Money Handling Policy Agreement, to protect us against fraud

What will I gain from starting and leading a fundraising group?

  • Most importantly, you’ll be helping people affected by breast cancer and making a positive difference to your local community
  • By bringing a group together, you’ll be giving other volunteers a new purpose and leading them in exciting, rewarding fundraising initiatives
  • You’ll have a lot of fun and meet new people
  • You’ll improve your skills in things like fundraising and event management
  • Any out-of-pocket necessary expenses will be reimbursed in line with our volunteer and money handling policy
