Registration

  • Who can take part?

The Pink Ribbon Walks are open to anyone over the age of 13. People aged 13-17 need to have an adult register them on their behalf. Children can also come on the day to cheer on their family members along the route and/or support them on site.

  • How much is it to take part in the Pink Ribbon Walk?

The entry fee to take part in the Pink Ribbon Walk is £25 per person. This entry fee is non-refundable.

  • What will I get for my registration fee?

    • an emailed digital event pack with event details, training guides, sponsorship form and fundraising tips
    • Optional physical fundraising pack sent in the post
    • regular Pink Ribbon Walk e-newsletters
    • a final event pack which will be posted to you before your walk
    • a pink ribbon to write a personal message on
    • a Pink Ribbon Walk T-shirt to wear on the day
    • your own personal walking number
    • free entry into the grounds of the stately homes
    • access to private land and restricted areas
    • refreshments and toilet facilities on the route
    • a Pink Ribbon Walk medal
    • celebratory hot food at the finish
    • free massage at the finish
    • an optional certificate showing your fundraising total
  • How much sponsorship do I need to raise?

Each participant is encouraged to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship (in addition to the £25 entry fee).

  • Why is there a £100 minimum sponsorship target?

We ask for a minimum sponsorship of £100 from each participant because we believe it reflects the scale and difficulty of the challenge. And so that we can continue to fund our life-changing research and support. While there is no penalty for not reaching the minimum fundraising target we do encourage all of our walkers to reach this target, and we can provide fundraising ideas and materials to help make this as easy as possible.

The £25 registration fee does not cover the entire cost of providing fully supported walks, so setting a minimum sponsorship target also ensures that we can cover the cost of each place in the event.

  • When do I have to sign up by?

Participants enter on a first come first served basis. Online registration will close on the Monday at midnight before the date of the event. We can also take registrations on the day if we are not at capacity. Please keep an eye on our website for the latest information on registering. We would strongly encourage you to sign up straight away as places are limited. This will also give you more time in which to raise your minimum £100 sponsorship.

  • I registered for the Ribbon Walk but I can no longer take part, can my friend take my place?

Yes. Please call 0370 145 0101 or email pinkribbonwalk@breastcancernow.org and we will be able to amend your booking.

Team

  • Can I take part as a team?

Yes of course. Each team member will need to be registered to the event, so one person can register the entire group or everyone can register individually. You can then create a JustGiving page for your team to help with that all important fundraising. Why not give your team a name so that everyone knows who you are.

  • What will the terrain be like?

We are just confirming our event routes at the moment, so unfortunately, we don’t have the specific details to share about the route difficulty, just yet. However, this is something that we will be sharing on our website soon.

The routes are designed to be challenging but achievable with a training program suited to your ability. We also will do our best to ensure all routes have a similar level of difficulty but there will be some variation. Once the routes are confirmed, we’ll be able to give you a much better idea of the difficulty for each route. So, we’d recommend keeping an eye on our website or you’re more than welcome to get in touch later in the year, when we will have more information to share on this.

All routes are subject to change.

  • How much training should I do?

The Pink Ribbon Walks are designed to be challenging but achievable. It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced walker or have never done anything like this before as long as you put in the training. There is plenty of time to train and training tips are included in your digital event pack, which you will receive when you sign up. You’ll be supported every step of the way by the team at Breast Cancer Now.

Please be aware that all of our walks do contain some hills and there will be varied terrain. More information about the terrain of each walk can be found on the website nearer the event.

  • How long will it take to walk the 20 mile and 10 mile routes?

We anticipate that the 20 mile walks should take between 5 and 8 hours to complete and the 10 mile walks should take between 2.5 and 4 hours. All these times include breaks for snack and toilet stops.

  • When will I receive my T-shirt and/or walking number?

Your T-shirt, event guide and pink ribbon will be sent to you in your event pack. Your walker number will arrive separately. This will arrive up to 2 weeks before your Pink Ribbon Walk. If for some reason your pack doesn’t arrive in time please don’t worry – we can give you a T-shirt and walking number on the day and you can definitely still take part in the event.

Event day

  • Where can my friends and family go on the day?

‘Cheer Points’ will be positioned at various points along the routes and will be accessible to friends and family who wish to offer support, so do invite them to come along. Further details for friends and family will be provided in your final pack nearer to the event date. Some of our venues are very kindly offering supporters to the event discounted entry rates. Confirmed details of these offers will be sent via the final pack before the event.

  • Will there be any toilet facilities?

Toilets will be provided at the start / finish areas and at Snack Stations at regular intervals along the route (about every 3-4 miles).

  • Will you provide any food or refreshment?

Water refill points will be available for all participants at the Snack Stations at regular intervals along the route, along with some fruit and snacks to keep your energy up. However, we recommend that you carry some water and your lunch with you in your day pack. To help reduce plastic waste, there won’t be bottled water provided at the event. So, make sure to remember to bring your own bottle to refill.

A celebratory meal will be provided for you when you cross the finish line. There will be vegetarian and gluten free options available to those who have requested them on their registration form.

  • Can I bring my dog?

Dogs will not be permitted at the Hampton Court Palace Pink Ribbon Walk, though they are more than welcome at the other venues. Dogs that are brought must be under the control of their owner and always kept on a lead. If you wish to bring your dog, do assess your dog's fitness before the event and be happy that they are capable of completing your chosen distance.

We recommend that your dog accompanies you on your training before the event so they become used to walking long distances at your pace and on a lead. Please also consider weather conditions. In previous years it has been very hot and some dogs struggled and were unable to finish. Please be aware that the routes pass through farmland where there are sheep, cows and horses as well as parkland where deer roam.

  • What support will I be given on the route?

You will be well supported and guided throughout the walk. Pink 20 mile and orange 10 mile Pink Ribbon Walk signs will be clearly placed all the way along the route. At regular intervals along the route there will be marshals to help guide and encourage you on your way. Please do listen to any advice or guidance they may offer you, as they are there to ensure you enjoy the walk.

In addition, along the route there will be several Snack Stations with volunteers offering refreshments who can help answer any of your questions.

Should you need any assistance whilst on the route we will provide you with an emergency contact number which will be printed on the back of your walking number.

To help identify participants, please wear your free Pink Ribbon Walk T-shirt with your walking number pinned to the front of your T-shirt/ outer layer of clothing where it will be clearly visible.

  • Is the route accessible for wheelchair users?

Some of our routes are accessible for wheelchair users but this can be weather dependent. If you would like to join the Pink Ribbon Walk and are a wheelchair user please contact pinkribbonwalk@breastcancernow.org to find out more.

  • Can I bring a pushchair?

As there are some less accessible sections we cannot allow pushchairs on the route.  Children under the minimum age requirement are more than welcome to come and cheer you on at our cheer points and at the finish line.
