Bereavement support

Bereavement is a very personal experience and everyone deals with the loss of a loved one differently. If you need some support, these services can help.

The Good Grief Trust

The Good Grief Trust provides information, and practical and emotional support for when you experience grief, or if you need to support someone else experiencing grief and loss.

On their website you can find helpful information, emotional and practical support, signposting to a whole range of support services - and stories from others who've experienced a similar loss.

Stopping unwanted mail

We know receiving post in the name of someone who's died can be distressing.

Below you'll find links to organisations that can help you stop unwanted mailings being sent.

  • Stopping charity mailings

Fundraising Preference Service - this is a free service, run by the Fundraising Regulator, that can help you to end contact with charities you no longer want to hear from.

  • Preventing post from new organisations

The Bereavement Register - by registering with this free service, the names and addresses of your loved one are removed from mailing lists, stopping most advertising mail within as little as 6 weeks.

The Mailing Preference Service - by registering with this service, the name of your loved one can be taken off direct mailing lists.

  • Stopping post from known organisations

To stop mail from known organisations, it works best to make direct contact with them by post, email or phone.

Let them know the person’s full name and postal address, advise them of the person's death, and ask them to remove them from mailing lists.

Inform us of a recent bereavement

Please do let us know if you think your loved one might be on our database, so we can make sure we don't mail them in the future. You can let us know by calling Hannah Jordan on 020 7960 3489 with the person’s name and address. Or email us.
