Balls and parties

Discos, barn dances and gala balls are all great excuses to get your groove on while raising vital funds for breast cancer research and support.

Top tips for hosting a fundraising party

  • Planning: Parties can take a while to plan, so make sure you give yourself a few months to pull things together. Write a list of all the bits you need to arrange and think about how long each will take to organise, and the cost. Rope in friends and family to help along the way. Be sure to take a look at our food hygiene guidelines if you're serving food and drinks and send out your invites with plenty of notice
  • Venue: Make sure you get a venue that suits your event and is easy for everyone to get to. It needs to be big enough for everyone to fit, but not so big that it feels empty. Sports clubs, hotels and local halls are all good. Let them know you’re organising a charity event
  • Selling tickets: Set a ticket price based on how much the event will cost and what guests will be prepared to pay. You’ll want to charge more than just covering your costs so that anything extra can be donated towards our world-class research and life-changing support. Then promote your event on social media, WhatsApp or via email, and ask friends and family to do the same
  • Decorations and more: Deck out your venue with balloons, banners and more. Let us know what you need to help turn your venue pink by getting in touch at community@breastcancernow.org or on 0207 025 2425. We’ll be happy to help
  • Entertainment: Recruit some performers such as singers, a comedian, or an inspiring speaker to pique people’s interest. If you’re planning on having music, hire a DJ, or, to cut costs, ask your most music-savvy friend to curate a playlist for the night. Just remember to make sure the venue has a sound system. If you’re interested in raising awareness of breast cancer at your event, we can help with speeches and presentations too
  • Extras on the day: Plan games for the night, such as a quiz or a ‘best dressed’ competition. You could even organise a raffle to raise a little bit more, just ask local businesses or guests to donate items to raffle off. Remember to check out our raffle guidance first
