Saneeta and her family

COVID-19 meant I had to adapt, but my fundraising was still a huge success

Raising money for breast cancer research and care is a cause close to Saneeta's heart. This is how she managed to continue her fundraising despite the pandemic.

COVID-19 cancelled my usual plans

Last summer I was planning on going to visit my family and friends in Newcastle but, due to lockdown, meeting up wasn't possible. With my trip cancelled, I thought I'd host a virtual Afternoon Tea so we could all still get together and support people affected by breast cancer.

It’s important to me to support Breast Cancer Now because my grandmother had breast cancer, it’s a cause very close to my heart.

Breast Cancer Now's Afternoon Tea team supported me

Before the big day, I set up a JustGiving page so everyone could donate from the comfort of their own home. It was quick and easy to set up and the Afternoon Tea team were on hand if I had any questions.

The event lasted roughly two hours and we all had an amazing time! I spoke about what our fundraising was achieving for people affected by breast cancer and we did a show and tell of all our bakes.

For a virtual tea, planning is key. My biggest tip is to have a few post it notes at the ready so you can get the discussion going again if things do start to go quiet!

We still enjoyed ourselves

It was a really lovely mix of Indian and English Afternoon Teas. Our bakes included scones, cupcakes, shortbread, pakoras, kachori, and coconut ladoo. We all made sure to share our recipes on the call so we could try them at home.

Afterwards, everyone said they had a wonderful time, and it meant a lot to me to be supporting a cause so dear to my heart.

Host your own Afternoon Tea

The money raised from each Afternoon Tea will help Breast Cancer Now carry on providing life-changing care and funding world-class research. If you'd like to join Saneeta in helping us, sign up today.
