After her mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016, Anna decided to fundraise for other women like her.
Breast cancer is a cause close to my heart
My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. She underwent many weeks of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and had a full mastectomy.
As a family, we can’t pretend we went through what she did, but living through my mum’s diagnosis alongside her – seeing first-hand the emotion, pain and fatigue was awful. Mum is the strongest person I know, and seeing her crumble was so heart-breaking.
She has now been declared No Evidence of Disease (NEDs), but the experience has changed our family’s life. It really made us slow down and realise what is important in life.
I decided to help by hosting an Afternoon Tea
With my love for baking, I decided to host an Afternoon Tea last year to help raise awareness and money for a great cause.
I always love socialising and hosting gatherings for family and friends, but this Afternoon Tea came at such a crucial moment. Due to social distancing restrictions at the time, it was the first time I had seen anyone other than my household in four months! Albeit at a distance, it was so lovely to see loved ones, eat good food and raise money for a great cause.
My sister and I baked both sweet and savoury items: some old favourites and some new things to try. We also decorated the house with the decorations in the fundraising kit.
My biggest tip is to plan ahead what you want to bake, and how long things will take. That way you'll know if you need to bake anything the night before or if you have time on the morning of your event!
